ISO 9660 Format
ISO 9660 is a standard for cross-platform use on Windows PCs as well as Macintosh, Unix, Linux, or DOS operating systems.
When to Choose ISO 9660 Format
| |
To record a cross-platform CD containing sections readable by different operating systems, including Mac OS, DOS, UNIX, and Windows. |
| |
To record multisession CDs where all sessions are mounted as a single volume (in contrast to HFS/HFS+ multivolume where each session appears as a separate volume). |
Recording the First (or Only) ISO 9660 Session
| 1 |
Click Other in the Toast window and hold down the mouse button. |
| 2 |
Choose ISO 9660 from the pop-up menu that appears. |
| 3 |
Drag files and folders to the ISO 9660 window. |
| 4 |
Click Select. |
In the Select ISO 9660 window, notice the tabs that separate panels for Files, Layout, and Settings.
Aliases work only on a Macintosh system. Because the CD will be used on other systems, you may want to check Resolve Aliases so Toast copies the original items to the CD.
| 5 |
To include additional files for recording, drag them to the Select ISO 9660 window. |
If you prefer, instead of dragging and dropping selected files, you can follow these steps:
|
| a |
In the Select ISO 9660 window, click Add. |
| b |
In the dialog box that appears select a file and click Choose. |
| c |
Repeat steps 5a and 5b for each file you want to add until the Select ISO 9660 window contains all the files you want. |
| d |
When the Select ISO 9660 window contains the files you want to copy, click Done. |
|
If there are any problems with the files, Toast informs you of the problem.
You may want to rename or remove items, resolve aliases, or change the layout of your files.
| 6 |
Click the Settings tab at the top edge of the Select ISO 9660 window. |
| 7 |
In the Settings panel, choose a data format from the Format menu: |
|
| |
If you want to add sessions to this CD later, choose CD-ROM XA. |
| |
If you don't intend to add data to the CD later, choose CD-ROM. |
|
| 8 |
Choose a Naming option for your files and folders. Toast automatically converts file names to conform to the naming option you select. |
| 9 |
For additional options, click More. |
A dialog box appears: You can add entries that are appropriate for the CD you plan to record. (This information cannot be seen by customers.)
| 10 |
To use the settings you have defined as default settings in the future, click Set Defaults. |
| 11 |
When the following alert message appears, click OK. |
| 12 |
In the Select ISO 9660 window, click Done. |
| 13 |
Insert a CD into your CD-Recorder. |
| 14 |
Click Record. |
In the Record dialog box, select an option:
|
| |
If you want to add data later, click Write Session. (If the resulting CD would be nearly full, this option is disabled.) |
| |
To close the CD so that no further data can be added, click Write Disc. |
|
Recording commences. When all the data is written, Toast automatically verifies the data.
| 15 |
When you see the message, "Your disc is ready," click Eject. |
Recording an Additional ISO 9660 Session
This section describes adding a session to a CD that contains a previous session.
To ensure that data from the previous sessions is still accessible
| 1 |
In the Toast window click Other and hold down the mouse button. |
| 2 |
Choose ISO 9660 from the pop-up menu. |
| 3 |
Drag the data of your choice onto the ISO 9660 window. |
| 4 |
Click Select. |
| 5 |
In the Select ISO 9660 window, click the Settings tab. |
Ensure that the format CD-ROM XA is selected, and select the same Naming option that you used in the previous session.
| 6 |
Click Done. |
The size of the selected data is displayed in the window.
| 7 |
Insert into your CD-Recorder the ISO 9660 CD you want to add data to. |
To verify that the inserted CD is the correct one, choose Disc Info from the Recorder menu.
| 8 |
Click the Record button. |
| 9 |
In the Multisession Options dialog box, select an option: |
|
| |
If you donŐt want previous sessions visible when inserting the CD, choose Ignore Existing Sessions. Choosing this option produces a CD that appears to contain ONLY the data from the new session. All old data will be gone (itŐs not actually gone, since CDs cannot be erased, but you are no longer able to access it.) This is the best option when you only care about the data recorded in the current session and donŐt want the older sessions to clutter your view of the CD. |
| |
To make all sessions visible when you insert the CD, choose Append to "[name of last session]." The new session is added to the existing ones already on the CD. This is a good choice when you want to preserve an archive, and each session contains data you need. |
|
The Append To option results in a CD that has the name of the new session as its volume name or label and has both the new data and the old data together in the "top" level of the directory structure.
It is also possible to delete folders selectively from the structure.
|
| a |
For backups recording only the data that has changed since the previous session, choose Incremental Backup. |
|
| 10 |
Click OK. |
| 11 |
In the Record dialog box, select an option: |
|
| |
If you want to add data later, click Write Session. (If the resulting CD would be nearly full, or you forgot to select CD-ROM XA, this option is disabled.) |
| |
To close the CD so that no further data can be added, click Write Disc. |
|
| 12 |
When you see the message, "Your disc is ready," click Eject. |
