Device Copy Format

Device Copy lets you record directly to a CD from block-oriented devices connected to your Macintosh via SCSI or ATAPI. Device Copy creates the exact copy of such devices as

    • SCSI hard disk
    • SCSI magneto-optical drive
    • SCSI or ATAPI removable drive with a disk inserted

Recording a CD in Device Copy Format

A dialog box appears with all connected valid source devices.

It is best not to change the numbers in the dialog box. However, if you need to copy the contents of a large hard disk (for example, 1 GB) to a CD, you must make a couple of adjustments:

1 Click Other in the Toast window and hold down the mouse button.
2 In the pop-up menu that appears, choose Device Copy.
    3 Click Select.
4 Select the device to be copied and click OK.
a In the dialog box, change the Copy pop-up menu from Blocks to MBs.
b Defragment your large hard disk. (This puts all the data at the beginning of the disk.)
c In the Copy field, type a number that equals the amount of data on your hard disk plus an additional 50 MB.
    5 Click OK.
6 Insert a blank CD into your CD-Recorder.
    7 Click the Record button.
8 In the Record dialog box, choose an option.
    • If you want to add data to this CD later, click Write Session (not recommended).
    • To close the CD so that no further data can be added later, click Write Disc.
9 When you see the message, "Your disc is ready," click Eject.

Recording a CD in Copy Format

A dialog box appears with all connected valid source devices.

When you select a CD that you have written yourself, Toast automatically subtracts the unreadable blocks at the end of the CD to avoid errors while writing.

If you want to add data to this CD later, click Write Session (not recommended).

To close the CD so that no further data can be added later, click Write Disc.

1 Click Other in the Toast window and hold down the mouse button.
2 In the pop-up menu that appears, choose Device Copy.
3 Click Select.
4 Select the device to be copied and click OK.
5 Click OK.
6 Click the Record button.
7 Insert a blank CD into your recorder.
8 In the Start Writing Now dialog box, choose an option:
9 When you see the message, "Your disc is ready," click Eject.
