Disabling automatic updating

To transfer individual songs and playlists manually, without erasing music from iPod, you must disable automatic updating.

To disable automatic updating, connect iPod to your computer and open iTunes. Select iPod in the iTunes source list and click the Options button. Then select "Manually manage songs and playlists."

Disabling automatic updating also enables iPod to be used as an external hard disk.
