Using iTunes with the Apple iPod

iPod is a portable audio jukebox with high-capacity storage, fast connectivity, and versatility.

By default, iTunes is set to update iPod automatically. When you connect your iPod to your computer using the FireWire cable, iTunes opens, then transfers all selected songs in your library and playlists to your iPod, and erases songs from iPod that aren't in the iTunes music library. If you add additional songs to your library during a session and want to add those to iPod, choose Update iPod from the File menu.

Using iTunes, you can also create and manage playlists, and edit song information directly on iPod. You can also transfer playlists from iTunes to your iPod.
