INTRODUCTION

Let's face it, I develop Racer on SGI O2's, but the main focus is Windows, because of it's wide availability and things like force feedback controllers and
cheap, fast 3D cards. The O2 is much slower than today's PC's for typical PC things, like games. However, that's not a reason to try and see what
response there might be from the SGI side.

GETTING IT TO WORK

Requirements are that you have a PC on which you can install Racer, and an SGI (O2, if you get it running on something else, please notify me so that I can
include it in a compatibility list) running IRIX6.5. You don't need to have OpenGL drivers, just be able to run the installer and install the game. The steps are:

Download and install Racer on your PC.
Copy all files (from for example C:\SIMS\RACER) to your SGI in some directory (for example, /usr/people/rvg/racer).
Download the SGI executable and place it in the SGI Racer installation directory.
Unzip the executable by typing 'ungzip racer.gz'.
Execute the SGI executable from within the Racer directory. You might need to do 'chmod +x racer' first to be able to execute it.

Hopefully, this is all you need to get it working. Notes:

It uses texturing a lot; it won't run fast on Indy's or machines without texturing support.
The code was compiled using '-mips3', so the code should run on R4400, R5000 (and I think R10K/R12K/R8K as well).

Let me know how it's running, I'm curious to see whether this works 'just like that' (probably not!). Would be fun if it turned out to run on Onyx machines.

KNOWN PROBLEMS

The sound is low-priority while developing on SGI; it might be twitchy.
