The Win32 version of the JavaTM runtime environment (JRE) is packaged so that it can be downloaded and installed by end-users for use with third-party applications that aren't packaged with their own copy of the JRE. The Win32 JRE is available in two versions: with or without support for locales other than US English. 

The Microsoft Windows version of the JRE is packaged with the Java Plug-in, a software product that enables web browsers to use JRE 1.2.1 to run 1.2-based applets. See the Java Plug-in documentation for more information. 

This JRE/Plug-in is identical to the optionally installable one included in the JDKTM software download bundle.

The Microsoft Windows version of JRE 1.2.1 is intended for use on the Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0 operating platforms. This JRE will not work on the Windows NT 3.51 platform.
